About Us

Huntunes: Midwest band from the early 90s with two albums and more to come. The Huntunes sparked to life in the St. Johns, Michigan high school band room in April 1981, when Paul Pioszak (vocals), Ned Niemi (guitar), Greg Fox (guitar), and Doug Vandemark (bass) stole Danny Plowman (drums) away from some other band. Over the next year, the band practiced, recorded and played gigs around their Mid-Michigan hometown.

High school graduation (1982) splattered the band. Paul and Doug were far too wise to step back into the next chapter, but in November, 1986, under the influence of Justin Escher, who took over as primary singer and served mightily as the band’s front man and second guitarist, Danny returned from the Marine Corps, Ned moved to bass guitar, and the band launched an aggressive campaign of recording and live shows from Petoskey to Gainesville, Florida. Paul re-joined the band in 1989 and the line-up was set.

The band recorded and released two albums of original songs: I Want to Be a Communist (1989) and McGuirk’s Suicide Hall (1992).

Huntunes' live shows in the 90s were unforgettable—raw energy and heartfelt lyrics that still resonate today.
